For the past 15 years, I have worked in the Jewish cultural space, forging new possibilities in Jewish practice, identity, creativity and meaning-making. This includes my work with LABA: A Laboratory for Jewish Culture, a global artists incubator program which uses ancient Jewish texts to inspire the creation of new culture and conversation and curatorial work at Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, Jewish Community Centers and a variety of other religious and non-religious establishments. I also lead workshops for Jewish cultural organizations using LABA-style text study, and produce large-scale events with the goal of expanding notions of what Jewish engagement can look like.
Curator &
CREATIVE DIRECTOR
I am an artistic director at LABA: A Laboratory for Jewish Culture, a house of study for culture-makers. Every year, ten fellows, a mix of writers, actors, dancers, chefs and more, are invited to study ancient Jewish texts in a setting free of a theological or political agenda, and use this study to inspire new art, ideas and connections. I direct the LABA hub in the Bay Area, and help oversee the five other LABA hubs around the world.
CONTEMPORARY JEWISH MUSEUM
In 2024, I curated the California Jewish Open at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, choosing 53 pieces from over 500 submissions to tell the story of what Jewish-identifying artists in California think about the connection.
The California Jewish Open is organized around four sections that explore connection with the Earth, other humans, the past/future, and the divine. These subthemes provide platforms to present different, and sometimes conflicting, viewpoints on wide-ranging topics.
